'Maglia Nera' Runner-Up Jersey - Size M/L
'Maglia Nera' Runner-Up Jersey - Size M/L
One-of-a-kind handwoven jersey cut & sewn from 1980s mud cloth. Mud cloth (also known as bogolan) is a traditional West African fabric most often from Mali and Burkina Faso. Mud cloth is woven in strips and then sewn together to create a larger textile. Patchwork mending.
‘Maglia Nera’ references the ‘black jersey’ awarded to the last place finisher in the Giro d’Italia from 1946-1951. Most notable were Sante Carollo and Luigi Malabrocca, who fought to see who could waste the most time “by hiding in bars, barns, and behind hedges, or even by puncturing their own wheels.”
